On an early Saturday morning, 9 September, 18 students from the 2022 batch of Certificate in TCM Assistant course gathered to visit Yi Shi Yuan herb processing facility located in Bukit Batok. Accompanying the group were 2 College teachers, Dr Tan Koon Yaw and their form teacher Physician Eleanor Chua. The students were warmly welcomed by Yi Shi Yuan’s manager, Physician Teo Choon Kiat, their sales team manager Kenny and quality assurance manager Ms Tan Zhi Xin, who gave an informative introduction of the company. To accommodate the large number of students within a limited space, an e-tour via Zoom then followed, which provided a clear view of how herbs were being processed at the facility. The tour ended off with a visit to the product storage and display areas, followed by a Q&A session. Being the first College excursion for the English courses post-COVID, the students found the session immensely memorable and insightful.
The Certificate in TCM Assistant course is a 2-year part-time course specially designed for the general public and prospective TCM clinic assistants to gain an overview of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the industry. Apart from personal healthcare and wellness, completion of the course could lead to opportunities in the TCM or related industries including career prospects such as clinical assistants, assistants to registered TCM practitioners, assistants in nursing homes etc.
